Deaf Republic
By Dead Centre & Zoe McWhinney
Royal Court Theatre, London: 29th August – 13th of September 2025
Samuel Beckett Theatre, Dublin Theatre Festival: 2nd -5th of October
A gunshot in occupied territory. A deaf boy is killed for disobeying orders he couldn’t hear. The next day, the whole town wakes up deaf.
Adapted from the poems of Ukrainian-American author Ilya Kaminsky, Deaf Republic is an epic modern fable of war, humanity and collective resistance.
Told through a mix of spoken English, British Sign Language (BSL), creative captioning and silence, Deaf Republic brings together an ensemble of deaf and hearing actors, aerial performers, puppetry, live cinema and poetry.

CONSTRICTION
By Mai Ishikawa
Dublin Fringe Festival 2025.
A Japanese bullet train. A woman. And a baby hatch.
Inside the train, we hear two voices talking about a woman who headed West to give up her baby. Sometimes serious, sometimes playful, they discuss the implications. But the more they talk, it seems, the less there is to say. And who are they, really? This experimental work is a surreal exploration of motherhood and identity, using sound and movement to explore the pain of facing reality.
